Nursery

Our nursery provides a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where children can develop confidence, independence, and a love of learning from an early age.

Transition into nursery

Starting nursery is an exciting milestone for children and parents alike. We aim to make the transition as smooth and positive as possible. Our team will work closely with you to help your child settle in and feel secure in their new environment.

What does my child need to wear?

Children attending our nursery are encouraged to wear a school uniform to help them feel part of the school community. We recommend simple, comfortable clothing and easy-to-manage footwear to support independence. A spare set of clothes should be kept on your child’s peg in case a change is needed. Please visit our uniform page to find out more.

What will the children be learning?

Our nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which sets the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five years. We focus on developing key skills through play, exploration and active learning. The EYFS is built around these prime areas of learning:

Children will take part in a mix of adult-led activities and independent learning opportunities, designed to help them grow and explore at their own pace.

Transition into Reception

Children begin full time education in the September before their 5th birthday. When children enter full time education in Reception class, we find a smooth transition from Nursery to Reception is essential to ease your child into school life.

Our transition arrangements take place from the first Tuesday in July when all children 'move up' to the next stage in their learning journey with us and their new class.  The new Reception class will spend an initial morning on the Tuesday in their new class with new teaching team. They will be collected at 12 noon. The following day, Wednesday,  they will once again spend the morning in their new class and also stay for lunch . They will then be welcomed and begin full-time from the Thursday.

This transition strategy is supportive and very effective in reducing the fears of starting full-time education both for families and the children themselves.

Healthy eating

We encourage healthy eating habits from an early age. Children have access to a snack table with milk, water, fruit and crackers throughout the day. Full-time children can bring a packed lunch or have a meal prepared on-site using a seasonal menu.

Parents as partners

We value the knowledge and insights you have about your child. Our nursery team will work in partnership with you to support your child’s development and learning journey. Regular communication will help us to understand your child’s needs and celebrate their progress together.

Sessions and funding

Our nursery offers flexible sessions to suit your family’s needs:

The Early Years, Nursery team can facilitate a limited number of flexible places for children attending our Nursery setting.  Generally pupils will attend either on a morning or for an afternoon session for 3 hours.  However, to support families, a child’s entitlement can be grouped together to enable either all day participation for Monday, Tuesday to lunchtime on Wednesday or Wednesday afternoon and all day for Thursday and Friday.  For more details about the criteria for selection and to discuss these arrangements, please speak to Miss Pounder, Lower Team leader.

We are excited to welcome your child to our nursery and look forward to helping them grow and thrive in a warm and supportive environment.
