Caldicotes learning and play

Making your playtime & lunchtimes fun; where you can be creative, curious and healthy (in body and mind) and become more resilient.

Introduction to CLAP

What is CLAP?

  • CLAP stands for Caldicotes Learning and Play.
  • A program designed to enhance the quality of play, build resilience, curiosity, empathy and independence at Caldicotes.
  • Encourages physical activity, creativity, and social interaction.
  • Supports child development through diverse, inclusive, and engaging outdoor play.

Core Principles:

  • Inclusive Play: ensures all children can participate regardless of ability.
  • Build independence, resilience and empathy.
  • Play Environment: safe, stimulating, and diverse spaces that inspire creativity.
  • Sustainable Practices: promotes the use of natural and recycled materials.

Outdoor play as the optimum vehicle for the development of young children, offering many advantages, summarised in the diagram below

  • Football field is is the only zone to be timetabled. Mon Y1/2, Tues Y6, Wed Y3/4 Thur Y5 Fri Rec)
  • Whistle used for lunch calls and KS1 end of play at 12.45pm. (line up)
  • Tidy up song - Bob Marley 3 Little Birds to sound at 12.50pm initially to allow KS2 children to tidy up.  (line up following tidying)
  • Sports Crew/CLAP reps will bring equipment in and out in storage boxes.
