Safeguarding at Caldicotes

WAS - Well-Being Award in Schools
‍We are working towards a Well-Being Award in Schools. (WAS) The award looks at the provision we already have in place to support the well-being of both pupils and staff, but also gives us the opportunity to enhance our provision even more. Miss Barry and Mrs Harrison will be completing the process to enable us to achieve the award.

The Caldicotes Safeguarding Team

All the staff who work as part of our team have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all our children.

We will:
- Promote a safe, caring and positive learning environment
- Support pupils to develop their self-esteem and respect for others
- Address any suggestion of bullying, harassment or complaint swiftly and effectively
- Create an environment of ‘safety first’
- Make effective use of our training to identify abuse: emotional, physical, sexual, neglect, radicalisation and make appropriate referralsIf you have a concern that any child is being harmed or at risk of being harmed or you have received a disclosure (intentionally or unintentionally) you MUST contact one of the Designated Safeguarding team. You must record all concerns into CPOMS.

If an allegation relates to a member of staff, you must speak to the Principal. Child protection

As a school, we have a duty of care to ensure the welfare and safety of all of our pupils. In an instance when staff have cause for concern that a child may be subject to ill treatment, neglect or other form of abuse, they will follow the agreed ‘child protection procedures’ and inform the designated member of staff within school who may refer to First Contact the concerns shared. All disclosures are taken seriously and the Child Protection team will follow the guidance provided to ensure all pupils’ safety is regarded as the priority.

There may be instances when a member of the Child Protection team has to engage with families to discuss awkward and embarrassing topics, however our priority is the safety, health and well-being of the child and is not to judge individuals or circumstances.

eSafety

Keep an eye on your child’s internet use including email and social media (Facebook, Snapchat, etc)
Check the history folder of your internet browser to check what sites have been accessed
Consider purchasing filter software or see if your ISP (BT, Sky, Talk Talk, etc) provide their own
Protect your computer with firewall/antivirus software

All staff have been trained on how to report safeguarding and technical concerns, such as if: 

They witness or suspect unsuitable material has been accessed
They are able to access unsuitable material
They are teaching topics that could create unusual activity on the filtering logs
There is a failure in the software or an abuse of the system
There are perceived unreasonable restrictions that affect teaching and learning or administrative tasks
They notice abbreviations or misspellings that allow access to restricted material

eSafety student guidance

Never post your personal information, such as a mobile phone number, home address, or the name of your school
Be aware that information you give out through social networking sites, instant messages, emails and blogs could put you at risk of bullying or harassment
Never meet in person with anyone you first “met” online. Some people may not be who they say they are
Remember that posting information about your friends could put them at risk
Never respond to harassing or rude texts, messages and emails. Delete any unwanted messages or friends who continuously leave inappropriate comments
Never give out your password to anyone other than your parent or carer
If you would not say something to another person’s face, do not post it online!
Only add people as friends to your site if you know them in real life
Think before posting your photos. DO NOT post or send semi-nude or nude pictures of yourself or anyone else. Personal photos should not have revealing information such as school names or location
Use the privacy settings of the social networking sites
